Cory Smoot

Guitar World online has the exclusive stream to a song off The Cory Smoot Experiment! The song is called “Mutilation” and comes off his post humous Metal Blade release “When Worlds Collide.” The album comes out June 5th and all proceeds will be donated to the Smoot Family Fund.

Dave Brockie aka Oderus Urungus of GWAR had this to say about his fallen guitarist:
“Cory Smoot is one of the great unsung heroes of metal. His musical abilities transformed GWAR from a splatter-thrash phenomena into a top metal act. And though he may have left us way too early, he left us a lifetime of music to listen to. He tore it up like few others, and will always be remembered as the true Flattus Maximus. We really loved the man, and there is not a day that goes by or a GWAR show that is played where he is not sorely missed.”

There are also two shirts up to Celebrate Cory’s life and again proceeds will be donated to help out his family.

GWAR have made their cover of Dayglo Abortions’ “Isn’t This Disgusting” available on iTunes. It is the last song they recorded with guitarist Cory Smoot before his untimely passing. Singer Oderus had this to say about it:

“The Dayglo’s have always been one of my favorite bands ever since we played a show with them 25 years ago. So when we heard about this project we were completely stoked, not just with the idea, but the song selected for us. It pretty much sums up my whole attitude. But I had no idea it would the last time I worked with Cory Smoot in the studio. This track has Cory‘s last studio leads, and as usual they fucking rip. Cory may have left us but his music will live forever. CRANK IT!”

All proceeds from the single will go directly to the Snoot Family Fund to help his wife and child. Righteous jams going to a righteous cause? It’s a no brainer.
