Interview with Matt of Grill Em’ All Truck!
Burgers and heavy metal go together like…well, burgers and heavy metal! The creative minds behind Grill Em’ Truck have the unique distinction of embracing the amalgamation of music and food into one of the hottest food trucks in the greater Los Angeles area. I recently had the pleasure of conducting an interview with Matt, co owner of the heaviest grub vehicle this side of the Mississippi. Check it out!
Give us a brief history of the company and how it got started.
Ha ha. It’s still weird to think anything Ryan and I are involved with can be referred to as a “company.” Wow. Grill Em All was started in the winter of 2009 as a way to get out of working for general assholes. We found some seed money, took our amazing gimmick and set forth with the most ball breaking menu of burgers possible. And onward and wherever we went.

What separates you from the other food trucks in Los Angeles?
The heavy metal thing is a given. But, honestly, we offer big portions of seriously good food. Nothing against our brothers and sisters in the food truck world but a lot of trucks portion out small meals for big bucks. We try to keep our menu priced well but with big burgers. You get what you pay for and then some.

How was the “Food Wars” experience? I know a lot of “reality” shows are total bogus so if you have any off camera dirt feel free to share!
Dirt….that was a cool band. Remember them? Anyway, Food Wars was a great time. Everyone who worked on that show was super sweet to hang out and work with. We had a keg on the truck for the taping of the actual “war” at the Santa Monica Pier. Therefore I do not remember who won. I’ll have to review the tape.

Has Grill ‘Em All ever set up in front of an arena sized metal show? If not, is it something you have considered?
Let me ask you this: are there any arena sized metal shows anymore? We did park outside of a Megadeth/Testament gig,
What are your favorite metal bands of all time? Do you jam heavy music when you guys are killin’ and grillin’?
We don’t jam heavy music we SLAY it! Shit. Of all time: Iron Maiden, Immortal, Anthrax, Black Sabbath, Holy Grail, and those guys called Metallica.
What is your favorite item on the menu?
I L-O-V-E the Waste ‘Em All (green chilies, beer soaked onion, pepper jack). Green chilies are good enough to bathe in and/or use as contact lenses.

Have you met any cool celebrities at the Truck?
Have we ever…Mr. Tommy Lee comes to mind. We melted his brain when we showed him an old Motley Crue trading card with his crazy face on it that we just so happened to have taped to the wall of the truck. Also, the friend of the main character from Boy Meets World had a Hannah Montana recently.
Tell us a bit about the Grill ‘Em All VIP program.
Don’t you want to be a Grill Em All Ghoul? I know I always wanted to before we started the truck. So, basically, we started a real cool fan-club type of deal called Ghoul School as a thank you to our loyal fans who deserve a little extra something-something.

How has your experience been with IndieMerch so far?
Can I use the word AMAZING without coming off as a fan-boy? Too late.

Who would win in a fist fight, Lemmy or God?
Dude, that is the oldest question in the Bible. They even asked Jesus that. For those who don’t read…it’s a trick question: Lemmy IS God. PS – CLEVELAND RULES!!!
